Adult Education Statement

Wahnapitae First Nation has entered into agreements with community partners with the goal of allowing adults who are unemployed or underemployed to further their skills and employability in their respective fields.


Gezhtoojig Employment and Training

Applying at Gezhtoojig Employment and Training is the first pathway. There are a few requirements for Adult Learners to be eligible for funding through Gezhtoojig Employment Services. Applicants must:

  1. Apply for funding through the processes detailed on Gezhtoojig Employment and Training Service’s website, which can be found at the bottom of this section.
  2. If the amount applied for is under $10,000 the Adult Education contact and the Education Director will assess the application and notify Gezhtoojig Employment and Training of final decision within five (5) business days of receiving the application.
  3. If the amount applied for is over $10,000 the Adult Education contact and the Education Director will assess the application, and with their recommendation, will submit the final application to Chief and Council for final approval.
    • Chief and Council will then advise the Education Director of the final decision of the application, who will then advise Gezhtoojig Employment and Training of the final decision.
  4. If the application is denied, the applicant will follow the appeal process set out by Gezhtoojig Employment and Training.

FNX/KGHM Adult Education and Training Assistance

The FNX/KGHM Adult Education and Training Assistance Fund is the second pathway, failing the Gezhtoojig Employment and Training pathway. There are a few requirements for Adult Learners to be eligible for funding through the FNX/KGHM Adult Education and Training Assistance Fund. Applicants must:

  1. Apply for funding and be denied through Gezhtoojig Employment and Training through the process above
  2. Be a registered Band or Community Member of Wahnapitae First Nation
  3. Ultimately, make the applicant more employable
  4. Be unemployed or underemployed
  5. Complete the attached forms which can be found at the bottom of this section
  6. Send proof of completion to the Education Department at the end of the training period

Kinoomaadiziwin Education Body - The Kinoomaadziwin Education Body is the central administrative structure for the Anishinabek Education System (AES).

 Anishinabek Education System - The Anishinabek Education System (AES) promotes Anishinaabe culture and language and improves education outcomes for Anishinabek students. Through the Anishinabek Nation Education Agreement, Wahnapitae First Nation and 23 participating First Nations, have full control over how to best allocate education funding. The funding will also allow for the delivery of educational programs and services.

Gezhtoojig Employment & Training – Gezhtoojig Employment and Training as a circle of Anishinabek people with a vision of self-determination will foster and direct Aboriginal employment, training, and business development initiatives. They develop public and private partnerships with all employment and business sectors to promote the employability and economic success of Anishinabek people.

FNX/KGHM - KGHM is an international mining company specializing mainly in extracting copper and silver. Currently operating a mine just outside of the current Wahnapitae Indian Reserve No. 11, KGHM has entered an Impact Benefit Agreement with Wahnapitae First Nation to allocate certain funding to help support Adult Education, miigwechiwenim, for which we are thankful.
