Xstrata Nickel

Xstrata Nickel has entered into a Participation Agreement with the Wahnapitae First Nation in relation to the mining industry related activity of Xstrata Nickel in the traditional territory of Wahnapitae First Nation.  The Participation agreement solidifies the continued relationship between Xstrata Nickel and Wahnapitae First Nation.  Wahnapitae First Nation applaud Xstrata Nickel for their increased efforts to include effective indigenous participation within the mining industry activity.

As part of the participation agreement, two committees have been developed:  Environmental Working Group and the Human Resources Working Group.

Xstrata Implementation Committee (IC)

The Xstrata Implementation Committee oversees the implementation of the Participation Agreement.  The Environmental Working Group and Human Resources Working Group report to the Implementation Committee.  The Implementation Committee consists of:

1. Doug Conroy, Xstrata Nickel
2. Marc Butler, Xstrata Nickel
3. Nic Fenner, Xstrata Nickel
4. Peter Recollet, Wahnapitae First Nation
5. Hans Matthews, Wahnapitae First Nation

Xstrata Environmental Working Group (EWG)

The Xstrata Environmental Working Group has been developed to review the environmental impacts and opportunities associated with the mining industry activities of Xstrata Nickel.  Together, Xstrata Nickel and Wahnapitae First Nation review, identify and mitigate any potential effects to the environment or traditional territory of Wahnapitae First Nation. 

The EWG recognizes the importance of relationship building and continuously works together to discuss mutual projects that ensure the natural environment is minimally impacted by the mining industry operating within the WFN traditional territory.

The Xstrata Environmental Working Group consists of:

1. Cheryl Recollet, Environmental Coordinator, Wahnapitae First Nation
2. Caroline Recollet, Community Member, Wahnapitae First Nation
3. Marc Butler, Xstrata Nickel
4. Chad Pearson, Xstrata Nickel
5. Lisa Léger, Xstrata Nickel.

Xstrata Human Resources Working Group

The Xstrata Human Resources Working Group has been developed to examine the human resource capacities and opportunities related to the Xstrata Nickel mining industry activity occurring within the Wahnapitae Traditional Territory.

The Xstrata Human Resources Working Group consists of:

1. Debbie Recollet, Wahnapitae First Nation
2. Marilyn Nicholls, Wahnapitae First Nation
3. Nicole St. Georges, Xstrata Nickel
