Sustainable DevelopmentThe Wahnapitae First Nation Department of Sustainable Development is responsible for all lands and resources as well as all development that occurs within Wahnapitae First Nation traditional territory. The department covers areas such as: environment, resource development, public works, economic development, and the mining industry. The Sustainable Development department aims to ensure that Wahnapitae First Nation is developed in a manner that is compatible with sustainable development principles. The Department of Sustainable Development operates under the definition identified by the Brundlandt Report: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own need” (1987). The Department of Sustainable development recognizes the importance of relationship building and continuously works with government, industry and other First Nation bodies to ensure that positive effective relationships are developed. Also, the Department of Sustainable Development acknowledges the effectiveness of capacity building efforts and emphasizes the continued progress of furthering the capacity of Wahnapitae First Nation and its members in hopes of developing capacity in a wide variety of areas.
